Smart ID Project
A New Standard of Biometric Authentication Platform for Integration within Institutions.
Connecting global authentication from access control to electronic payments with a single card, ETUNNEL makes the connection.
The Smart ID Project is an integrated biometric authentication solution
based on Fingerprint Smart ID Cards, applicable to various
security environments such as access control, PC logon,
and electronic payments.
It provides the same authentication system across the organization,
achieving both enhanced security levels and cost reduction.
Why should we use Smart ID?
Card Cloning Risk
RFID card data is easy to clone and copy. Low-cost systems lack encryption, making them highly vulnerable to data sniffing or reader attacks.
Signal Eavesdropping
Wireless data transmission is constantly exposed to risks of signal interception and eavesdropping.
Lost Cards
If a physical card is lost or stolen, it can be immediately abused for unauthorized system access.
Security Vulnerabilities
Fake Fingerprint Issues: High-tech methods exist to forge fingerprints and bypass sensors.
· Data Leakage: Fingerprints are unchangeable biometrics, so leaks cause irreversible security damage.
· Server Vulnerability: Hackers targeting central servers can compromise all users' stored biometrics.
User Inconvenience
Hygiene Concerns: Physical contact with a shared sensor by multiple users causes hygiene concerns, especially in cleanliness-first zones (hospitals, manufacturing lines).
Technical Limitations
Speed Degradation: Large crowds simultaneously accessing shared sensors can create bottleneck delays.
· Integration Barriers: Diverse fingerprint technologies (capacitive, optical) limit easy system integration.
Instead of fixed fingerprint terminals touched by an unspecified number of people, it provides a non-contact access security system suitable for the post-COVID era by verifying fingerprints on one's own card and entering based on the ID card.
Convenience
Can be used in the same way as RFID cards.
· No built-in battery is required, avoiding the inconvenience of charging or discharging.
· For cards with built-in batteries, NFC amplified recognition is supported through a dedicated folder.
Security
Fingerprints are registered on the fingerprint ID card so only the registered user can use it, preventing unauthorized use by others if lost.
· Provides the same level of biometric security as fingerprint authentication systems.
· Minimizes hacking risks by securely storing fingerprint information inside the card.
Safety
Unlike existing fingerprint authentication systems, verification is possible without physical contact with a public terminal.
· Supports non-contact biometric verification to reduce infection risks, aligning with post-COVID trends.
Scalability
In addition to access security, it can be integrated with card readers to apply security features like PC (Windows) login.
· Supports various security and verification methods, such as mobile office access authentication using NFC.

Core Effects

Biometric Data Stored & Matched Inside Card
All fingerprint data is securely stored and processed within the smart card, never transmitted to external systems. This ensures compliance with GDPR (General Data Protection Regulation) and protects user privacy by preventing data leaks or cyber attacks.

User-Specific, Non-Transferable Access
Only the person who registered their fingerprint can activate and use the card. Even if lost, no one else can use it, eliminating risks of card theft, fraud, or unauthorized access.

Enhanced Security with Exclusive Case Design
The smartcard operates only when inserted into ETUNNEL’s proprietary case, which supplies the power required for fingerprint authentication. This design physically prevents unauthorized use, ensuring secure deployment even if the card is stolen or duplicated.

Privacy-by-Design Architecture
ETUNNEL’s system is designed so that biometric information never leaves the card, making centralized attacks virtually impossible. This approach aligns with global standards on privacy and minimizes compliance risks for organizations.

Easy Transition from Existing RFID Systems
ETUNNEL smartcards are fully compatible with standard RFID infrastructure. Organizations can retain their existing access control systems – only the card itself needs to be replaced with a fingerprint-enabled version, reducing upgrade costs and disruption.

Configurable Interoperability Across Government Agencies and Companies
Upon request, the card can be configured to grant access to multiple locations such as headquarters, branch offices, and affiliated institutions - all with a single ID card. This allows for seamless yet secure movement across various organizational facilities.

Trusted and Deployed by UN ITU
Already in use at the United Nations ITU, the solution has been field-proven in high-security, real-world environments. Demonstrates reliability, user convenience, and robust performance at an international level.
Security Integration
Standardization of security with the same authentication system across institutions
Operational Efficiency
Integration of various authentication tasks into a single system
Cost Reduction
Minimizing redundant systems and infrastructure investment
Global Scalability
Compatible with various languages, environments, and international standards
One-Time Use Option for Visitors
ETUNNEL’s fingerprint smartcard system supports secure and flexible temporary access for visitors, contractors, and event participants – without compromising privacy or system integrity.
How It Works
· A visitor’s fingerprint is securely registered onto a reusable smartcard.
· After use, the fingerprint data is permanently deleted from the card.
· The card is then reset and ready for reuse with another visitor.
Benefits
· Reduces operational overhead with simple issuance and recovery process.
· Seamless integration with existing access control policies.
Key Features
· Zone-based access control
- Grant access only to permitted areas
· Ideal for :
- External guests
- Temporary staff or technicians
- Conference/event attendees
- Government or corporate visitors
